Victor Rudd's follow-up dunk early in the second half had the Sun Dome rocking, and with what had been a 16-point margin down to eight there was some brief hope USF could make a run at 12th-ranked Louisville.
But it's kind of hard to make a run without making some shots.
The Bulls didn't hit another field goal for more than eight minutes and by then the game was well out of reach. Louisville won 59-41 Sunday afternoon.
Rudd's spectacular follow of a missed three, where he sprinted into the lane and rocked the ball home at full stretch, cut Louisville's lead to 34-26 with 14 minutes remaining. A couple of free throws by Anthony Collins had the margin to six a minute later.
But USF turned it over on the next two possessions while Louisville went on a 21-5 run. Chane Behanan scored 10 of his 12 points during the run, with two dunks and an easy score on the fast break.
The Bulls fell to 10-15 overall and just 1-12 in the Big East. Louisville is 21-5, 9-4.
Louisville seemed poised to put things away in the first half when it led 30-14, but the Bulls closed with three 3-pointers to make it 32-24 at the half.
While the Bulls hit 5-of-9 from deep in the half they went 0-for-11 the rest of the way. Jawanza Poland scored 11 points with Javontae Hawkins and Toarly Fitzpatrick adding nine each.
Russ Smith paced the Cardinals with 15 points. Peyton Siva only took two shots but did a nice job facilitating with seven assists.
