USF running back Lindsey Lamar will miss the rest of his senior season after fracturing his collarbone during Saturday's loss to Syracuse, according to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times (TampaBay.com).
The Bulls' back was having a career day with 145 yards on the ground before falling victim to what initially appeared to be a chest injury. That performance was fresh off setting his previous career-best 110-yard performance against Louisville last Saturday.
Lamar was taken to Tampa General Hospital where further testing revealed the true culprit of the injury.
Junior back Marcus Shaw and senior Demetris Murray will likely receive the bulk of the carriers for the remainder of the season. Both were involved in the game plan on Saturday and Murray received all of the carries in the fourth quarter after Lamar's injury.
The even worse news for the 2-6 Bulls is that three other contributors went down with injuries during their second-half meltdown at Raymond James Stadium on Saturday.
Guard Danous Estenor (ankle), tight end Evan Lando (ankle), and wide receiver Derrick Hopkins are all questionable or worse for the team's game against Connecticut this Saturday.
This week's game is very winnable for USF (0-4 Big East) against the Huskies (0-3 Big East) at Raymond James under the lights on Saturday night. Both teams are searching for their first conference win of the 2012 season.
It'll take a good week of practice and some positive reinforcement from coach Skip Holtz to help the team overcome the rash of injuries and disappointment that has plagued the Bulls so far this season.
