USF Bulls' Head Coach Skip Holtz said the team's offensive line and secondary must improve this week against Ball State.

During his weekly interview with Tom Jones and Rick Stroud, Coach Holtz talked about the Bulls' shortcomings and looked ahead to the team's upcoming matchup.

He singled out both the team's secondary and offensive line as two of the Bulls' weaknesses after Saturday's disappointing loss to Rutgers.

"We are looking hard at our secondary, just like we are our offensive line right now. Because if you said those were the two weak spots in the game Saturday. I think we gotta be honest and gotta look at the coaching. We gotta look at the players, the personnel and we gotta look at the scheme of what we were doing. I think we've gotta look at all of that and see what we have to do to correct it.

Holtz said he and his staff discussed their play calls and addressed their ability to remain unpredictable in certain situations to maintain a competitive edge over their oponents.

"We sat down and had a long meeting yesterday with the defensive staff, just on what we're doing," Holtz said. "...you don't wanna be predictable. You don't wanna say okay, on third and long we go to nickel, we play two-deep zone or three-day zone."

When asked about Ball State, he compared their pass rush and front seven to Rutgers who stymied their offensive line a week ago.

"They're probably more similar to Rutgers in their aggressive package and what they do as far as movement up front and those type of things," Holtz said.

Quarterback B.J. Daniels wasn't sacked but he was forced into making some bad decisions against the Scarlet Knights. He threw three interceptions for the game.

If the Bulls hope to end with a better outcome against Ball State, their offensive line will need to improve against a similarly physical and aggressive defensive front. Rutgers' defense controlled the line-of-scrimmage and limited the team to only 95 yards rushing on 29 recorded carries.
