Penn State alum and former Tampa Bay Buc Mark Robinson joined Tom Jones and Rick Stroud of the Sports Page on Friday to discuss the fiasco at Penn State. Robinson has close ties to college football, since he is also the current analyst for USF Bulls football games.
However, this scandal has strongly affected Robinson. He played under Paterno and Sandusky. And he explained his relationship with coach Paterno.
"When I went into that meeting room my senior year, as captain, and spoke with him, he [Paterno] was one of the most approachable people that I have ever come across," Robinson said. "He listened, he didn't tell me what to do, so the culture there, if you ask players, was a strong culture there of honor and ethics and doing the right thing."
Meanwhile, Robinson was not a big proponent of Freeh's recent report about the investigation.
"It's almost laughable, when Freeh was standing up there talking about the culture, I cannot believe he went there," Robinson said. "He can say there's emails this and he can say a lot of different things, but when we start talking about culture and not knowing anything about it, it's upsetting to me."
