A playoff spot has long seemed a foregone conclusion for the Tampa Bay Storm but a five-game losing streak has prolonged the former formality.
Maybe the team was waiting to get it done on Fan Appreciation Night. Tampa Bay can clinch a playoff spot in its home finale when the 3-13 Pittsburgh Power visit the Forum Saturday.
Tampa Bay's losing streak has dropped its record to 7-9 but a .500 finish is still for the taking. The Storm wraps up the regular season next at possible first-round playoff opponent Jacksonville.
Both Philadelphia (11-5) and Jacksonville (10-6) have wrapped up their divisions and thus have the top two seeds in the American Conference. The two wild card spots will go to either Tampa Bay, Orlando (6-10) or New Orleans (5-11).
Losses by either of the other two teams would also lock up a spot for the Storm. But in order to assure themselves of the first wild card Tampa Bay must maintain a better record than Orlando and New Orleans. Those teams play each other next week. Saturday Orlando is visiting another three-win team Cleveland while New Orleans challenges Jacksonville.
All of the play-by-play, and playoff repurcussions, come your way on WDAE Saturday night. Jack Harris and Darek Sharp have the pregame at 7 and the call starting at 7:30 p.m.
