There are three weeks left in the regular season and the Tampa Bay Storm, despite losing four straight to fall below the .500 mark, are close to clinching a playoff spot.
In fact the team could still get in without another victory. But according to Team President Derrick Brooks the playoff picture is simple.
"The playoffs start today," he told Ron Diaz on Wednesday, though not meaning it literally. "I think right now, the goal is simple for us, let's get a win and let the playoffs take care of themselves and where we'll go."
Tampa Bay has likely settled into the No. 3 seed out of the four teams that will make it in from the American Conference. This week the Storm would clinch a spot with a victory or losses by either Orlando or New Orleans.
Though the Storm (7-8) only need one win, and technically could go 7-11 and still get in, Brooks said the goal is to finish at .500.
As for injured quarterback Adrian McPherson, Brooks says the Storm are "hoping" that he can return to action this week but it sounds like the team is more concerned he's fully ready for the playoffs.
Here is the full interview. Brooks gets into some Bucs talk towards the middle but the Storm portion is right at the beginning.
