Tampa Bay Storm receiver Joe Hills set a franchise record with 259 yards, and scored all five of his touchdowns in the second half of a 77-64 win at Utah late Saturday.
After needing four months to get their first road win last season the Storm got a huge victory after falling behind 21-7. Hills was a big reason as was a defensive effort led by lineman Demarcus "Tank" Tyler.
With the score tied at 35 in the third quarter the Storm got a score on a 5-yard slant to Hills. On the next drive Tyler swarmed Utah QB Tommy Grady in the end zone, leading to him dumping the ball into the turf to avoid the sack. The intentional grounding resulted in a safety and a nine-point lead.
After a failed onsides kick it quickly became 51-35 on Adrian McPherson's sweet bootleg run. The Storm quarterback already has 10 rushing touchdowns in three games.
Fullback Tommy Crosby also ran for three scores.
Hills would add TD grabs of 36, 26 and 10 yards to put away Utah. And Tyler made another enormous play early in the fourth quater, deflecting a Grady pass allowing it to be intercepted by Jean Fanor in the end zone. That allowed the Storm to march down for a 65-41 lead.
In the first half Utah took advantage of a net recovery on a kickoff for the two-touchdown lead. But the game swung back in the Storm's favor when Fanor tackled Blaze WR Chase Deadder and forced a fumble, recovered by Rashad Barksdale.
Tampa Bay would end the half with a late score, a 6-yard run by McPherson, to tie it at 28.
The Storm have the second-best record in the American Conference behind 3-0 Jacksonville. San Antonio, which is winless in two games, comes to the Forum this Friday.
