A slow start for the Florida State Seminoles ended in business as usual as the Noles wrap up another undefeated season (12-0) with a 45-7 win over the Duke Blue Devils in the ACC Championship Game. Duke was this weekend’s biggest underdog heading into a conference championship game, and the game proved the experts were right as the Blue Devils’ 8 game winning streak is snapped.
The Blue Devils went into the game a 29 point underdog against a Noles team which averaged 53.7 points per game, but a scoreless first quarter had some thinking the impossible could be possible. Then Heisman Trophy favorite Jameis Winston and the Noles offense awoke and began to click drive after drive against the Blue Demons.
Jameis Winston opened up the scoring for FSU in the second quarter with a 14 yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin putting the Noles up 7-0. The Noles never looked back as they racked up the points on a Duke defense and Winston practically racking up a Heisman Trophy. Winston finishing his first regular season with FSU 19-32 for 330 yards, with four (one rush) touchdowns and two interceptions.
The Seminoles outgained the Blue Devils 569-239 yards as the tandem of Davonta Freeman and Karlos Williams racked up 146 yards rushing on the ground and two touchdowns. Kelvin Benjamin led Florida State with 119 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Duke’s lone score came on a Josh Snead five yard touchdown run with just over a minute to go in the game.
Florida State advances to their first BCS National Championship Game since 2001, as head coach Jimbo Fisher is given a contract extension as well. Fisher and Florida State agreed to an extension for five to seven years at an average of approximately $4.1 million per season, the Palm Beach Post reported Saturday night.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A prosecutor says Florida State quarterback Jameis (JAYM'-ihs) Winston will not be charged in a sexual assault case. The 19-year-old Heisman Trophy candidate was accused of raping a female student in December of last year, but State Attorney Willie Meggs says there is not enough evidence for anyone to be charged in the case. The prosecutor says Winston's DNA matched a sample found in the woman's underwear. But Winston's lawyer has said that was expected and doesn't prove guilt.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A prosecutor says Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston will not be charged in a sexual assault case.
State Attorney Willie Meggs made the announcement Thursday. The 19-year-old Heisman Trophy candidate was accused of raping a female student in December last year, but Meggs says there is not enough evidence for anyone to be charged in the case.
The Tallahassee Police Department turned the case over to Meggs on Nov. 12 after several media inquiries. Meggs interviewed the accuser Nov. 21.
The prosecutor says Winston's DNA matched a sample found in the woman's underwear. But Winston's lawyer, Tim Jansen, has said that was expected and doesn't prove guilt.
The top-ranked and undefeated Seminoles are playing Duke on Saturday in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game. A win would likely put them in the BCS championship game.
