Last week, the Ron and Ian Show had St. Pete Mayor Bill Foster and Hillborough County Commission Chairman Ken Hagan on separately to discuss the Rays' meeting with Hillsborough County as well as discuss the future of the Rays at Tropicana Field.
The Rays have a contract with the City of St. Petersburgh through 2027, but many people feel the lowest attendance in the league is spurred by the out-dated Tropicana Field in a bad location and the team is in desperate need of a new ball park. The biggest question is where that new ball park should be.
Many Rays fans feel Foster should work with the organization and let them out of the contract. Many feel if the Rays were able to explore other options, the franchise could be saved and baseball will stay in the Tampa Bay Area.
One such fan, Brandon Ferro of Trinity, has created an online petition urging Foster to allow the Rays to explore their options.
According to owner Stu Sternberg, only 300 season ticket holders reside in St. Pete and if that number is true, something needs to get done sooner rather than later.
