Despite Joe Maddon's high praise for Chris Archer Tuesday morning, the pitcher was one of a group of notables optioned to the minors.

Archer, Jake Odorizzi and Alex Torries all were sent down.

"No malicious feelings," said Archer, who was told by the team they want him to keep his innings stretched out so he'll be ready to start when called up.

Maddon told Ron and Ian that Odorizzi was a likely candidate during a conversation from Port Charlotte Tuesday morning, then explained how tough Archer was making things as far as deciding who to name the No. 5 starter.

Tuesday's moves seem to point to Roberto Hernandez or Jeff Niemann winning that job.
