With just over one week to go before pitchers and catchers report to spring training, the Rays are expecting a large number of players in Port Charlotte.
On Monday, the team extended spring training invites to 7 minor league players: outfielder Will Myers, first baseman/outfielder Leslie Anderson, infielder Cole Figueroa along with pitchers Matt Nevarez, Jim Paduch, Jim Patterson and Neil Schenk.
The big name here obviously is Myers, who's now the club's top prospect. Myers was acquired from the Royals in the James Shields/Wade Davis trade. Anderson is an intriguing name. The Cuban defector hit .309 with 14 HR and 56 RBI last season at Triple-A Durham.
Th Rays have invited 64 players so far to spring training, the most since 2005.
