Though the chances of B.J. Upton returning to the Rays would seem practically impossible. he at least left open the possibility Friday.

"This decision doesn't necessarily close the door on the Rays," Upton told the Tampa Bay Times. "But now it's time to focus on the next phase of my career."

Further executive VP Andrew Friedman said Upton's decision to turn down the Rays' qualifying offer doesn't end dialogue between the sides.
