Rays have decided who they will commit to for the long term, while picking up a $1.8 million option on catcher Jose Molina, they declined picking up the $6 million option on DH Luke Scott.
"(We) just didn't want to make any decisions right now that would push us in any one certain direction,"executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman told the Tampa Bay Times. "I want to have a lot of flexibility in our decision-making process. We have a lot of guys potentially to add, so I felt like that gave us the most flexibility."
The Rays will continue to leave the door open for Scott to return.
