Tampa Bay Rays pitching coach Jim Hickey joined The Ron and Ian show earlier today on 620 WDAE and opened up about the Rays chances of making the postseason.  Currently with fourteen games to play and the team six games out, the hopes are quickly fading for the Tampa Bay Rays.

However Hickey says that the team isn’t out of it yet.

“Our goal is to get into that playoff spot.  It’s becoming more and more unlikely as the days go by but it’s still not out of the question.”

The Rays have lost seven of their last eight games including a 1-5 road trip against Baltimore and New York, two teams the Rays are chasing for a postseason birth.  Coolstandings.com has the Rays currently listed as a 3.3% chance of making the postseason.

Hickey told Ron and Ian on 620 WDAE that the Rays have to go on one amazing run once again with time running out.

“We got fifteen ballgames left” Hickey said.  “It’s not unreal to imagine winning twelve or thirteen of those ballgames to have a shot.  We got to get that going tonight.”

The Rays play the third of a four game series against the Boston Red Sox this evening.  7:10pm first pitch on 620am WDAE.
