Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon took the criticism from Boston Red Sox Manager Bobby Valentine in stride on Wednesday, when Valentine who was confronted by the media on his tardiness to the Oakland Athletics ballpark. He told reporters that he had promised his son that he would be at the San Francisco airport to pick him up. Valentine told reporters that the flight had been late coming in and they were delayed by traffic.

He also went on to state that it was well known that rival manager Joe Maddon routinely showed up late to games and was there at 4 p.m. on a day to day basis. 

Maddon had fun with the topic by telling the media "Apologies to the writers for being late to today's pregame session,my pedicure appointment ran a litle late."

Joe Maddon seemed amused by the situation stating to Tampa Bay Times reporter Marc Topkin that he was "Flattered by the whole thing. I think it's very amusing, that's all. I'm amused by moment and it's flattering that somebody would include me in the conversation."
