Looks like a lot of Bay Area fans miss their Lightning.

More than 5,000 came to the Tampa Bay Times Forum Sunday to see the Lightning open their Training Camp, in and around Fan Fest.

Sunday morning WDAE's Steve Carney and Ronnie Lane broadcasted live from the Fan Fest and were able to talk to many of the team's brass including owner Jeffrey Vinik. (Go HERE for that interview and links to the other chats via the Podcast page).

"I was concerned that we were harming our fans, harming the game. It was a very frustrating process," Vinik said on the lockout. He added he was confident there would be a season, however. "Here we are, we have a 48-game season to look forward to and we're thrilled and excited about our team."

As far as on-ice doings head coach Guy Boucher tried to liven things up outside the generally ho-hum drills of a first Camp practice.

"We just wanted to give back to our fans," he said. "The original practice didn't have any shootouts in there but I felt bad, so we threw that out and I think the fans enjoyed it."

Tampa Bay switches its camp to Estero for the next three days.
