Miami Hurricane's quarterback Stephen Morris sprained his left ankle and may not be able to play Saturday in a clash against the Florida State Seminoles.

X-rays showed no evidence of a fracture and Morris also avoided the dreaded high-ankle sprain, Miami head coach Al Golden said.

"We’ll assess Stephen as the week kind of unfolds,’’ Golden said. "But right now we’re going in thinking that Ryan is going to be the guy.’’

Backup quarterback Ryan Williams has completed 11-of-15 passes for 87 yards this season. His comeback effort was stopped short against UNC after taking a sack to set up a fourth and long with less than a minute to play against the Tarheels.

He finished the game with 9-of-13 passing for 80 yards but was not able to bring his team back for the victory.

The injury to Morris came after he took an awkward step and twitsted his ankle during the fourth quarter of Saturday's loss to North Carolina. He left the game in a walking boot.

Facing the tough defense of the No. 12-ranked Noles will be challenging for the Canes without their star quarterback. On September 29, Morris set a Miami and ACC record with 566 passing yards in a shootout win over N.C. State.

That's the same N.C. State who upset the then third-ranked Seminoles just two weeks ago.

For the season, the junior quarterback has completed 154-of-268 passes for 1,991 yards and thrown nine touchdowns to six interceptions.
