A huge day for Miami running back Duke Johnson lead the way for Al Golden’s Hurricanes as they defeated Boston College 41-32. Johnson ran for 135 yards on seven carries, including touchdown sprints of 54 and 56 yards to help the Canes bounce back from an early 14-0 deficit.
Miami quarterback Stephen Morris, a junior playing his first game since offseason back surgery, completed 28 of 45 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown to freshman Malcolm Lewis. Morris also had one mistake on an interception that bounced off the chest of Canes receiver Rashawn Johnson.
All wasn’t good for the Hurricanes, as the defense gave up 441 passing yards to Boston College QB Chase Rettig.
The Eagles had a 14-0 lead early in the first quarter, but the Canes scored two touchdowns in 53 seconds to end the first quarter tied at 14. Canes RB Eduardo Clements ran from a yard out to make it 14-7. Sophomore middle linebacker Denzel Perryman, a sophomore returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown to tie the game.
The Canes and Eagles traded scores all afternoon long but Duke Johnson’s two touchdowns in the second half was the difference as the Canes took all the life out of Alumni Stadium in Massachusetts.
The Hurricanes head to Manhattan, Kansas next week to take on Kansas State.
