In the wake of the departure of defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Gators coach Will Muschamp hired veteran South Carolina defensive line coach Brad Lawing Tuesday. Lawing was hired as the assistant head coach and will also coach the defensive line along with current assistant Bryant Young.

Lawing has coached talented linebackers such as Julian Peterson, Eric Norwood, Melvin Ingram, and most recently Jadeveon Clowney, who left his mark in the Outback Bowl. South Carolina will replace Lawing with Deke Adams, who carries a reputation of a good recruiting.

Muchamp immediately promoted linebackers coach/special-teams coordinator D.J. Durkin to defensive coordinator after Quinn accepted the job in Seattle as the Seahawks defensive coordinator.
