In a statement released by the University, the Florida Gators announced that junior linebacker Jelani Jenkins has decided to forego his final year of eligibility with the Gators and declare for the 2013 NFL Draft.

In 36 games at UF, including 31 starts, Jenkins totaled 182 tackles, 16.5 tackles-for-loss, 6.0 sacks and three interceptions.

According to the statement released by UF, "Jelani informed me that he wishes to pursue his dream of playing in the NFL," said Florida head coach Will Muschamp. "We wish him the best of luck and encourage him to return to Florida and complete his degree."

The Olney, Maryland native played in nine games and made eight starts as 2012 was plagued with injuries. He had 29 tackles with 5 tackles for loss, a pair of sacks, two quarterback hurries and came through with a key interception in the second quarter during the 37-26 victory at No. 10 Florida State. Jenkins also returned a blocked punt 36 yards for a touchdown with :02 remaining to defeat Louisiana-Lafayette. 

Jenkins becomes the fourth player to decide to forego their final year and declare for the draft since the Gators season ended in shocking defeat at the hands of Louisville in the Sugar Bowl. DT Sharrif Floyd, S Matt Elam and TE Jordan Reed have also announced their intentions to enter the 2013 NFL draft.
