Gators sophomore defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy has been named the SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week.
Purifoy blocked a Louisiana punt with :02 remaining and Jelani Jenkins returned it 36 yards into the end zone in the Gators’ come-from-behind win over the Ragin’ Cajuns on Homecoming. It helped complete a 14-0 run in the final 1:42 to close the game for the Orange and Blue and help them improve to 9-1 on the season.
It marked the second blocked kick for Purifoy this season, after blocking a 25-yard FG against Missouri a week earlier. Purifoy also recorded five tackles and a pass breakup in the win.
This marks the third SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for the Gators this season and the seventh under special teams coordinator D.J. Durkin
