A blocked punt return stunned Gators fans twice Saturday. The second time was much more enjoyable.

Louchez Purifoy's block and Jelani Jenkins' 36-yard return with only two seconds left gave the Gators a dramatic, if way tougher than expected 27-20 win over Lousiana-Lafayette Saturday.

The Gators had tie the game with just 1:50 to go on a Jacoby Brissett 3-yard pass to Quinton Dunbar. Brissett entered in the third quarter when starter Jeff Driskel injured his ankle.

Lafayette looked content to run the ball out and go to overtime, while Florida didn't use its timeouts initially for risk of maybe giving the visitors extra time to score. But after a third-down stop with :13 remaining Will Muschamp called a timeout.

Turned out to be the right move as the Gators went all-out for the block and Purifoy was untouched. The ball went up in the air and right to Jenkins who had no one threaten to stop him from scoring.

Lafayette trailed 13-3 early in the third quarter but scored the next 17 points.

Florida forced a fumble in the game's opening minute to take over at the ULL 28, but could only get a field goal out of it. And that was pretty much the story for the Gators on offense until the final drive of the half.

A 22-yard run by Driskel sparked an 85-yard march that took 2:14 and ended with Driskel hitting Trey Burton for a 2-yard score with only 18 seconds to go.

Florida carried over the momentum to start the second half and drove for a field goal that made it 13-3. But stunningly Lafayette took control, getting more points in the third quarter (14) than the Gators had allowed all year total.

After only getting three first downs in the first half ULL compiled four while driving for a touchdown, then took a 17-13 lead on a blocked punt return of its own, a 22-yarder by Blake Comminie.

In a critical juncture the Cajuns could have taken a two-score lead, getting inside the Gators' 10 but Florida held the visitors to a field goal that made it 20-13.

Florida's offense came up empty on its next drive and punted with barely more than five minutes left. The defense drove ULL backwards creating a 49-yard field for Brissett.
