A victory for the Buccaneers today off the field. The team prevailed over cornerback Eric Wright in the grievance filed by Wright to protect the guaranteed money in his contract. But the league ruled in favor of the Bucs, which voids the guaranteed money and that means the Bucs can release Wright without owing him any money.
Wright signed a 5-year deal worth $37.5-million with the Bucs last offseason. In his original deal, Wright was slated to receive $7.75-million in guaranteed base salary for 2013. The Bucs contended that Wright's 4-game suspension for Adderall use last season voided the guarantees in his contract and the league agreed.
So, what happens now? The Bucs could release Wright or restructure his deal while they attempt to acquire another CB or two (Revis?). Chances are, Wright will be released when the Bucs do acquire a veteran cornerback or two.
