The Bucs have plenty of money to spend this offseason. But they want to spend it wisely. GM Mark Dominik said on Friday the team will not the franchise or transition tag on any player this offseason.
The Bucs have a number of free agents that they would like to re-sign, including defensive linemen Michael Bennett and Roy Miller. Bennett is coming off a terrific season with 9 sacks and played really well against the run. Miller was also a key part of the team's number-1 ranked rush defense in 2012.
Dominik also praised DE Da'Quan Bowers, calling him a "premier left defensive end" and expects him to have a major role in 2013. That tells you the Bucs believe he could be exonerated of the gun charges in New York. Dominik said "left defensive end" in referencing Bowers. Bennett was the left defensive end. Could it be that negotiations with Bennett are not going well and they're grooming Bowers to take his spot? Negotiating ploy on the part of Dominik? You can certainly make that argument.
