It appears the coaching shakeup continues over at One Buc Place. Head coach Greg Schiano has been shuffling assistant coaches in and out after just one season. According to reports, the Bucs have fired special teams coordinator Bob Ligashesky and they will replace him with Paul Ferraro, who was the defensive coordinator last season at the University of Maine. WDAE's Rick Stroud reported the Ligashesky firing. "The Football Scoop" reported Ferraro's hiring.
The team had its ups and downs on special teams in 2012. They led the NFL with 3 blocked punts. However, the return game struggled mightily. Tampa Bay's kick return game ranked 30th in the NFL in kick return average at 20.3 per return. The Bucs were also 19th in the NFL in punt return average with 9.0 per punt return.
There is a Rutgers connection here. Ferraro was Schiano's defensive coordinator at Rutgers from 2001-2004. Ferraro does have some NFL coaching experience. He spent 3 years with the Rams as their linebackers coach from 2009-2011. Ferraro has been a special teams coach in the NFL. Ferraro was the Vikings special teams coach from 2006-2008. He was also a special teams assistant with the Carolina Panthers back in 2005.
