Sports Illustrated’s Peter King joined the Sports Page this morning and discussed some former Tampa Bay Buccaneers chances of getting into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Whenasked if former Buccaneers John Lynch and Warren Sapp have a chance to make the hall on the first ballot, King did say that both have “good shots” but there is a quandary voters must deal with when cast their support.
"Here’s the thing about Sapp. I absolutely believe he has a strong case for the hall” said King. “I think the question is, and the question I always ask myself is, there are so many guys on the current list that are deserving. I have to ask myself do guys like that (Sapp) jump the other guys currently on the list.”
Both Sapp and Lynch are eligible for this first time to enter this hall of fame this year, both members of the lone Super Bowl winning Tampa Bay Buccaneers team in 2002.
King went on to say that the voting process makes it difficult for anyone to enter in the hall on the first ballot.
"You’ve got Cris Carter there. You got Bill Parcells there too” said King. “There’s a ceiling of how many guys that we can vote for. The issue is in the end you have only five guys you can support, and that’s where it becomes a tough process.”
Voting on the class of 2013 will take place on February 2nd, 2013 with the election results to be announced immediately following the final vote the day before Super Bowl XLVII.
