The 5-4 Bucs were back on the practice field on Wednesday as they prepare for Sunday’s road game at 2-7 Carolina. Here’s the Bucs injury report: RG Jamon Meredith injured his ankle during practice Wednesday and left the locker room on crutches. He was listed as a “limited” participant at practice. DE Michael Bennett (shoulder) and LG Jeremy Zuttah (shoulder) did not practice. CB Eric Wright (Achilles) was limited. WR Arrelious Benn (shoulder) and FS Cody Grimm (hamstring) practiced fully.
Notable injuries for the Panthers: LT Jordan Gross (Not injury related), WR Steve Smith (rest), LB Thomas Davis (Not injury related), DT Dwan Edwards (ankle), DE Antwan Applewhite (hamstring), and C Geoff Hangartner (knee) didn’t practice. G Amini Silatolu (shoulder) and WR Armanti Edwards (knee) were limited.
News & Notes:
- Head coach Greg Schiano says LB Quincy Black will undergo further tests in the next 2-3 weeks when the swelling goes down in the neck area.
- Schiano says LB Adam Hayward is “the most prepared” to step into Black’s spot at SLB. Schiano also there will be other players in different packages who will see time, notably Dekota Watson. Hayward was running with the first team during the early practice session open to the media.
- Despite the numbers being down in his second season, no one on the Bucs is buying into the Cam Newton “Sophomore Slump” theory. Schiano says Newton and the Panthers offense still makes big plays. DT Gerald McCoy says the offense still runs through Newton.
- The Bucs promoted DE Markus White from the practice squad. Team also signed LB Joe Holland to the practice squad.
