The 5-4 Bucs are riding high with three straight wins.  They won a game yesterday despite being outgained and losing the time of possession battle against the Chargers.  But the win came at a cost.

Linebacker Quincy Black was carted off the field after a scary collision with Chargers running back Ryan Mathews.  During his Monday press conference, head coach Greg Schiano says Black suffered “a serious injury” and is having complications with his left arm as a result of the injury.  Schiano wouldn’t elaborate as to the extent of the injury.  He says more tests are being done.

Schiano says Black is definitely out his week against Carolina and that his injury could be a “longer term thing”. Schiano visited with Black last night at the hospital and says “he’ll be fine”.  Schiano doesn’t believe it’s a career-threatening injury.

Bucs players in the locker room are understandably concerned about Black’s condition.  Wideout Tiquan Underwood says a bunch of players will be visiting Black today in the hospital.  Running back Doug Martin called Black a “lovable” guy in the locker room.  Linebacker Mason Foster says it’s a key loss on the field too.  “It’s big….He’s a veteran, leader..makes a lot of plays for us”, says Foster.

Underwood was asked about the risk players take when they play this game.  “Just gotta play with no fear because it’s part of it.  Injuries are a part of this game but you can’t think about it as a player”.
