After having the weekend off, the Bucs were back at work Monday at One Buc Place.  Unfortunately, the team is dealing with another controversy concerning a cornerback and Adderall.  First it was Aqib Talib.  Now, according to Jay Glazer of FOX, Eric Wright is now facing a 4-game suspension for the same offense.

Head coach Greg Schiano declined to comment on the matter during his Monday press conference because of “league guidelines”.  When asked if he thought Adderall use was a problem in the locker room, Schiano denied that was the case.

In the locker room, players did not say much on the matter.  “The verdict is still out on that so….I don’t even know what’s going on”, says defensive tackle Roy Miller.  Cornerbacks E.J. Biggers and Leonard Johnson figure to be the starters this week in Oakland if the Wright suspension goes down.  Johnson is coming off a stellar outing against the Vikings last week and says he’s ready for a larger role.  “I’m just taking it one day at a time…the whole Eric Wright situation will handle itself out, the Achilles or whatever else is going on….Right now, I’m just trying to focus on getting better”.

Schiano said Wright tweaked his Achilles during the Vikings game.  Wright was seen riding the stationary bike during the early portion of practice.  He was not made available to the media today.  There’s no timetable on when the league will officially announce any discipline.  Stay tuned.

News & Notes:

  • I asked Bucs DT Gerald McCoy if the 3-4 Bucs were playoff contenders.  “Oh yeah, definitely”.  Considering the Packers, Eagles and Cowboys are underachieving, the Bucs could slip into the picture if they put together some wins.  Bucs next 3 games are winnable: At Oakland, home for San Diego and at Carolina.
  • The Bucs are turning their attention to the Raiders this week.  WR Mike Williams says from what he sees on film, the Raiders defense is playing more zone than man coverage.
  • Interesting stuff from DE Da’Quan Bowers, who described his Achilles injury: “It felt like I had no shoe on.  When I looked down and saw my shoe on, I knew something was wrong”, says Bowers.  The team is increasing Bowers’ workload in practice this week.  He played 12 snaps against the Vikings so expect that snap count to increase gradually.
  • The Bucs had a rare weekend off.  DT Roy Miller says he spent quality time with his kids and took them to Chuck-E-Cheese.
  • The team is off Tuesday before returning to their normal practice schedule on Wednesday.
  • Catch the Bucs-Raiders game this Sunday on 620 WDAE, your home of the Bucs.  Our pre-game coverage begins at 9am.
