Lots of positive vibes coming from One Buc Place today as the Buccaneers welcomed back wide receiver Tiquan Underwood by re-signing the receiver. Head Coach Greg Schiano said live on 620 WDAE that he was really excited to see that Underwood has not missed a step in his first practice since being let go after the pre-season.
“I think Tiquan will be a good addition” said Schiano. “He’s been out a couple of weeks since we released him, but he got back out there and looked sharp.”
Underwood finished the pre-season with nine catches for 158 yards in four games with the Buccaneers. The third year receiver from Rutgers made national headlines last season when he was cut from the Patriots roster days before their Super Bowl date with the New York Giants.
Buccaneers offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan said he was happy to see Underwood back at practice.
“You look at the things he did in the pre season, production and versatility. He’s got speed and a very smart player.”
With Underwood’s return means an end for Preston Parker who was released as a result of bringing back Underwood. Head Coach Schiano said that all personnel is based on the game at hand.
“Whenever we do a move, it is with one motivation about winning this week” said Schiano. “Although we have long term plans for sure, we have to do what gives us the best chance to win on Sunday.”
Head Coach Schiano expects both Underwood and Jordan Shipley, who was re-signed yesterday, to be ready to go for their date with the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
