The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that they have claimed DT Corvey Irvin, G Julian Vandervelde and C/G Cody Wallace off waivers. The team also announced they have released DL Wallace Gilberry and waived G Bradley Sowell.

Irvin joins the Buccaneers from the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he played in four games during the 2011 season. Prior to his time in Jacksonville, he spent two seasons with the Carolina Panthers, where he was drafted in the third round (93rd overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.

Vandervelde was a fifth-round (161st overall) selection of Philadelphia in 2011. He played in one regular season game as rookie and all four preseason games, including one start, in 2012. Vandervelde started 37 games at guard for Iowa, where he was a three-year Academic All-American and earned second-team All-Big Ten honors as a senior.

Wallace, a 2008 fourth-round pick (107th overall) for San Francisco, spent his first two seasons with the 49ers. He has spent time on the practice squads of the Detroit Lions and N.Y. Jets in 2010, and in 2011, signed with the Houston Texans practice squad. Wallace spent the 2012 offseason with the Texans, playing in all four preseason games before being released on Friday. A native of Cuero, Texas, Wallace was a three-year starter at center for Texas A&M, where was named first-team All-Big XII as a senior.
