BELL SENT PACKING, KARNS RECALLED: With the bullpen in a rough situation, the Rays made a roster move Sunday morning to try and bolster the much-worked relief corps.  Right-hander Heath Bell was designated for assignment, and Nathan Karns has been called up from Triple-A Durham.

Bell, acquired from Arizona this past offseason, struggled for Tampa Bay.  In 13 appearances, he went 1-1 with a 7.27 earned run average.  He allowed 16 runs, 14 earned, on 24 hits in 17 1/3 innings pitched.

Karns, also acquired in an offseason trade, had mixed success at Durham, going 2-2 with an 8.20 ERA in six starts with the Bulls.
