Rays Knock Off Brewers 2-1

Nothing wrong with trying to start another winning streak.  The Rays got terrific pitching and a clutch hit from James Loney to beat the Brewers 2-1 on Monday night from Tropicana Field.  The Rays (51-54) are now 5-2 lifetime against the Brewers (59-48).

Milwaukee got on the board when Mark Reynolds slugged a solo HR off Jake Odorizzi in the 3rd inning to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.  It was Reynolds’ 18th homer of the season.

The Rays had a chance in the 5th when Logan Forsythe blooped a double down the right field line— but he was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple.  Tampa Bay finally broke through in the 6th when they loaded the bases with two out.  Loney came through with a 2-run single off Kyle Lohse to give the Rays a 2-1 lead.

Odorizzi (7-8) was fantastic once again— 7 innings, just one run allowed on 3 hits with no walks and 5 strikeouts.  Brad Boxberger struck out the side in the 8th.  Jake McGee closed it out in the 9th to pick up his 12th save.  Lohse (11-5) got the loss for Milwaukee.

On Tuesday night, the Rays continue their series with the Brewers at the Trop.  6-6 Alex Cobb goes for the Rays against former Rays pitcher Matt Garza, who’s 7-7 on the season.  Our coverage on 620am WDAE and 95.3FM begins at 6pm with Tom Krasniqi and the Suncoast Hyundai Dealers Inside Pitch.
