Indians batter Rays pitching to avoid sweep

Mark Reynolds hit a pair of home runs, Carlos Santana had a career-high five hits including a homer, and Justin Masterson and two relievers combined to throw a four-hit shutout as the Cleveland Indians avoid the sweep, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 13-0 Sunday at Tropicana Field.

The Indians got on the board first in the top of the second as Reynolds led off with a walk against David Price.  Santana followed with a single, but was erased on a fielder's choice by Mike Aviles, moving Reynolds to third base.  Reynolds was then retired on a fielder's choice by Lonnie Chisenhall, but Aviles got to third base on the play, and scored on a single by Drew Stubbs.

Cleveland extended their lead an inning later, when Reynolds his his first homer of the afternoon, a three-run blast off the batter's eye in centerfield.

The game remained 4-0 until the fifth, when a double by Santana scored Ryan Raburn, who had doubled off Price to start off the inning.  Aviles then reached on an infield single, and Chisenhall followed with a three-run homer of his own, this one to right field for an 8-0 lead.

Reynolds hit his second homer of the game in the seventh off Kyle Farnsworth, a solo shot to make it 9-0.  Santana followed with a double, and Aviles made the lead double digits with a single.

Michael Bourn made it 11-0 in the eighth with a solo homer off Brandon Gomes.

Reynolds just missed hitting his third homer of the day in the ninth, doubling off Fernando Rodney.  Santana then blasted a two-run shot off the foul pole in right to set the score at 13-0.

Tampa Bay will now play 20 of their next 26 games on the road, starting with the first of three against the Texas Rangers in Arlington Monday.  Jeremy Hellickson (0-0, 7.71 ERA) will start against Alexi Ogando (1-0, 0.00 ERA).  First pitch is at 8:05, with coverage on 620 WDAE starting with Suncoast Hyundai Inside Pitch at 7:00.
