ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (620 WDAE) -- Baltimore tagged Joel Peralta with a pair of runs to break a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning, giving the Orioles a 5-3 win over Tampa Bay Tuesday at Tropicana Field
Tampa Bay jumped out to an early lead, as Matt Joyce singled off Chris Tillman with two out in the first, and Longoria followed up by blasting a home run to straightaway centerfield fopr a 2-0 lead.
Baltimore would get on the scoreboard leading off the top of the third inning, as Lakeland native Steve Pearce hit a solo home run off Chris Archer.
The Orioles' hitters would work over the Tampa Bay right-hander in each of the next two innings, loading the bases in each frame, but only getting a single run in each inning via a sacrifice fly. J.J. Hardy's fly ball brought in Nelson Cruz in the fourth to tie the game, and Adam Jones' sacrifice fly scored Ryan Flaherty to give Baltimore a 3-2 lead.
Tampa Bay pulled even in the seventh, loading the bases with one out before Ben Zobrist's sacrifice fly scored David DeJesus from third base to make it 3-3.
The Rays could not get a shutdown inning in the eighth though, as Peralta loaded the bases with one out, and Flaherty's base hit scored Matt Wieters to break the tie. A fielder's choice grounder by Nick Markakis gave Baltimore some insurance at 5-3.
Tampa Bay loaded the bases in the home ninth against Orioles closer Tommy Hunter, but Desmond Jennings popped out and Logan Forsythe struck out to end the game.
