Get ready because there could be a storm brewing and it could be heading into (or out of) One Buc Place.

Darrelle Revis is a hot name each off season and rightfully so. The man is a three-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler. Even with that it doesn’t make him untouchable. We saw that back in the day with Joe Montana being traded from the 49ers, Brett Favre from the Packers, Herschel Walker from the Cowboys, etc. It’s not something that is out of the realm of possibility. With that said, this Revis stuff may end up having some momentum in some way.

New Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht is on record saying that the first order of business was to address Revis’ contract. Weeks later, the rumors started regarding the Bucs receiving inquiries for their star player from not one but two separate national reporters.

Coincidence?  Perhaps. But it’s ironic that the team was making his contract a priority and now reports are heating up, just like they did before he was traded from New York to TampaBay.

Let’s look at some more irony. The Denver Broncos and New England Patriots were rumored to be the front-runners for a potential deal in a Revis trade. Many laughed at that report but let’s fast forward to the present and analyze a few more things.

For starters, they are both outside of the conference which is probably the first thing you want to look at as an organization when considering trade partners. Second, the Broncos are reportedly releasing their aging captain and All-Pro corner back Champ Bailey — leaving them with just two corner backs on their roster counting just $1.3 million against the cap in 2014. Last, the Patriots are believed to not be interested in re-signing Aqib Talib because of a contract demand that may be higher than what Brent Grimes just signed for in Miami. For a few million dollars more than Grimes and Talib, New England would most likely be willing to pay Revis his current salary as reported by the Boston Globe.

The Buccaneers may in fact not be interested in trading away Revis. No one is saying that they are. But if you begin to put together the pieces — Licht’s words about Revis' contract and the position that the two rumored teams have put themselves in — it makes you wonder if there is fire where there is smoke after all.
