With new head coach Lovie Smith and his reputation for building great defenses in the National Football League, many Buccaneers fans are expecting a big year from the pewter and red when it comes to creating turnovers and holding the opponent to low point totals.  Smith’s ‘Tampa Two’ defense in the past has made mere players into franchise type players during his tenure in Chicago, especially at the linebacker position with Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs.

Bleacher Report’s Matt Bowen, who played several seasons in the National Football League, joined WDAE’s ‘The Ron and Ian Show’ on Tuesday as talked about the high expectations put on the 2014 Buccaneers defense with Lovie Smith at the helm.

“I’ve watched Lavonte David and everyone knows that will (weak side) linebacker position in a Tampa Two defense has produced Derrick Brooks,” said Bowen.  “That is the playmaking position at the second level.  Lavonte David is one of the best young linebackers in the NFL.  And with (Gerald) McCoy, again that same scheme you’re talking Warren Sapp.  That under tackle three-technique defensive tackle,  you have to have those two guys.  You can’t play that defense without those two guys, and in Tampa they have two of the best guys at those positions.”
