Tampa Bay Selects Defenseman With First Of Two Opening Round Selections

Tampa Bay started the day with eight selections in the 2014 NHL Draft, two in the first round alone, but after making an afternoon trade with Vancouver, were left one short when the festivities in Philadelphia began.

Earlier Friday, the Lightning traded this year's second-round pick to the Canucks for 2015's seventh-round selection, defenseman Jason Garrison, and the rights to Notre Dame forward Jeff Costello.

With the 19th overall pick, Tampa Bay decided to solidify their blue-line, selecting D Anthony DeAngelo from Sarnia, Ontario.

Along with the newly re-signed two-way forward Ryan Callahan, the Lightning also acquired the 28th overall pick from the New York Rangers in exchange for Martin St. Louis on March 5th. The pick was originally a second-rounder, but conditions of the trade stipulated that the selection would become a first if NYR reached the Eastern Conference Finals.
