Lightning Head To Break With Win Over Edmonton

The Tampa Bay Lightning (28-7-2) knocked off the Edmonton Oilers (18-15-3) 6-3 on Saturday night to wrap up a western Canadian road trip with an impressive 3-0-1 mark.

The Oilers struck first, as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored in the first period to give Edmonton the early lead.  Steven Stamkos answered with a power play goal late in the frame to tie the game 1-1.  After Alex Chiasson scored to give the Oilers the lead back in the second period, goals from Nikita Kucherov and JT Miller 1:32 apart gave the Lightning their first lead, 3-2, which they would take into the third period.

In the third period Tyler Johnson scored to make it 4-2, but Leon Draisaitl scored on the power play to make it 4-3.  Steven Stamkos scored his second goal of the game at the 15:03 mark to add much needed insurance - on the play Nikita Kucherov came through with his fifth point of the game.  Tyler Johnson added an empty netter that would send the Bolts into the Christmas break with an impressive 6-3 win.

The Lightning are now off until Thursday because of the Christmas break when they play host to the Philadelphia Flyers.  Puck drop on Thursday night is scheduled for 7:30 PM - you can hear the game, beginning with pregame coverage at 6:30 PM, on News Radio 970 WFLA.
