620 WDAE High School Scoreboard 4/1

Jefferson 5, Steinbrenner 3

Robby Martin did a little bit of everything on Saturday as the Dragons defeated the Warriors 5-3. Martin's two-out single in the 1st inning gave Jefferson the early lead and then his two-RBI single in the 5th sealed the deal for the dragons. He also threw 6+ innings and struck out four to pick up the win on the mound.

Trailing 1-0 in the 3rd, Steinbrenner tied it up when Dalton Raeckers came in to score on a wild pitch after reaching on a leadoff walk.

Jefferson answered back in the 4th when Jack Rodriguez blasted a leadoff double of the centerfield fence and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Jake Coleman. Ty Evans then made it 3-1 when he drew a bases loaded walk in the 5th.

The Warriors showed a lot of heart coming back, scoring on a Patrick Morris sac fly in the 6th and a Sal Cimino single in the 7th, but Michael Dominguez came on in relief to shut the door for the Dragons.

Jefferson centerfielder AJ Mathis also had two hits and reached base three times in the victory.

Riverview 11, Armwood 0

Lennard 3, Plant City 2

Sarasota 9, Jesuit 5

Joel Brewer had an RBI double and Thomas Bencivenga went 3 for 4 but it wasn't enought as the Tigers lost on Saturday. McGuire Weaver, Alex Mocny, Jake Jones and Duncan Hunter each had two hits.

Strawberry Crest 3, King 1

The Chargers pick up the win and improve to 12-2 on the season. Eric Beattie has done an incredible job with his young Strawberry Crest club.

Two things from this game : 1) Congrats to King coach Jim Macaluso for coaching his 1000th game. 2) Two brothers faced off as King senior first baseman Greg Barone faced off against his little brother Derek, a sophomore who plays third base for Strawberry Crest. You don't see either of those situations every day!

Durant 8, Tampa Bay Tech 1

Brandon Runey went 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Alex Molinelli went 2 for 2 and drove in three. Tom Woodmansee started for the Cougars and got the win throwing three scoreless innings and striking out four.

Wharton 11, Blake 0

Duncan Pastore had a strong game on the mound -- five shutout innings with only one hit given up and five strikeouts -- and at the plate -- 3 for 4 with an RBI double and a run scored -- to lead the Wildcats to victory. Leo Alfonzo also had a huge game for Wharton as he went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and three runs batted in.
