9th Annual Sunscreen Film Festival

The Sunscreen Film Festival is organized and presented by the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Film Society Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to education, economic development, informing the public about the art of visual storytelling, enhancing opportunities for local filmmakers to develop their craft and art, and increasing the public’s awareness and support of local filmmaking as a cultural and economic asset.

The festival has grown from a gathering in a St. Petersburg, Fla., art gallery with 600 attendees in 2006 to a nationally recognized event with an annual attendance of more than 11,000 people. The festival is based at the BayWalk Entertainment Complex and Muvico 20 Theaters but also uses multiple locations around downtown St. Petersburg. Sunscreen is one of only 23 film fests nationwide in 2013 to be sponsored and acknowledged by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Sea Lion Splash

A limited engagement at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo will feature a colony (or raft) of coastal sea lions along with daily educational shows. The shows will teach guests all about their natural athleticism, intelligence and playfulness, while also educating audiences on rescue and conservation efforts for sea lions. This is a real treat for visitors and native Floridians alike, since there are no sea lions to be found in the Gulf of Mexico

Antiques Evaluations Saturdays

Many of us have followed the “Antiques Road Show” on television hoping to spot a familiar family heirloom worth enough money to change our lives. At the Henry B. Plant Museum we have our own “Antiques Road Show” called Antiques Evaluations Saturdays. Seven Saturdays a year skilled appraisers donate their time to evaluate the community’s possessions.
