TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The Gulf still has a large red tide algae bloom that is sitting off of the Pasco County coast and ten miles offshore from north Pinellas.

“It’s not growing but its dimensions are changing. Earlier with the bloom it was further off shore. It was say 90 miles long and 60 miles wide. With the bloom now it’s more like 110 miles long north and south – and maybe only 5 to 15 miles wide,” Brandon Basino said with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

He added there's no indication the bloom will get any closer to the Gulf coast, but it is moving southward.

Scientists are monitoring the bloom which kills fish.
